A few yards away from Chesterman Beach, on Lynn Road, you will come across one of Tofino’s most unique vacation rentals: Chesterman House. This stunning cedar beach house was built in 1980, after the family fell in love with the area during the 70’s.
Chesterman House was designed and built by well-known local craftsman Jim Sadler, who sourced all the cedar used in construction from nearby forests and islands. After arranging to have the wood shipped to Tofino, Sadler had the each of the logs specially cut for the project, giving the construction the custom attention he was known for. Chesterman is a one-of-a-kind house — there is no other like it anywhere in the world.
The main features of this timeless home are perhaps best appreciated inside, where the custom-cut wood truly highlights the natural cedar patterns. Sadler had each piece of wood cut and numbered so that it would appear as if it were one continuous piece of lumber throughout the house.
Other architectural features include the vaulted, open-beam ceiling and the floor-to ceiling windows facing the breath-taking Chesterman Beach.
When the house was first built Tofino was still just a sleepy beach town with only a handful of full-time residents. Now, it is a worldwide tourist destination with high-end resorts, fancy restaurants as well as family-oriented eateries, art galleries, and loads of festivals throughout the year.
Would the family ever plan on selling or making changes to this timeless Tofino rental? No. In fact, the only recent change the family made is to install a hot-tub.
Chesterman House is ideal for families or intimate groups that wish to vacation in style, whether it be for a weekend, a week, two weeks….
The house itself is located amidst an old growth forest, providing you with a feeling of coziness and protection. Simultaneously, the floor-to-ceiling windows give you with that sense of vastness and freedom as you look out upon breath-taking Chesterman Beach.
Unlike most beach rentals, Chesterman House has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Even though you may feel as if you are disconnected from the rest the world, the house has WIFI, a live web cam for connecting with your friends, a TV/DVD/VCR player, and a sound system for CD, DVD, and iPod.
The total living space of this Tofino Beach House is 1600 square feet of living space, 460 square feet of re-built and expanded deck space, which is divided into two levels, with the bedrooms and one bathroom on the second floor.
One of the most comforting and romantic features of this home is the fireplace that sits between the living room and dining area, which fills the entire space with warmth and light, when needed. But possibly even more important to some is the fact that Chesterman House boasts a BBQ for grilling during those fun summer months along with standard household spices that add extra flavour, as well as a washer and dryer, so you won’t have to leave the house and incur in the extra expense of taking your clothes to a local laundry.
When it came to furnishing this Chesterman Beach Rental, the owners thought of everything. For the families that come with a baby or small child, there is even a playpen, high chair, booster seat and a gate at the top of the stairs available.
