Chesterman House was designed and built by well-known local craftsman Jim Sadler, who sourced all the cedar used in construction from nearby forests and islands. After arranging to have the wood shipped to Tofino, Sadler had each of the logs specially cut for the project, giving the construction the custom attention he was known for. Chesterman is a one-of-a-kind house — there is no other like it anywhere in the world.

Other architectural features include the vaulted, open-beam ceiling and the floor-to ceiling windows facing the breath-taking Chesterman Beach.

When the house was first built Tofino was still just a sleepy beach town with only a handful of full-time residents. Now, it is a worldwide tourist destination with high-end resorts, fancy restaurants as well as family-oriented eateries, art galleries, and loads of festivals throughout the year.

The total living space of this Tofino beach house is 1600 square feet of living space, 460 square feet of re-built and expanded deck space, which is divided into two levels, with the bedrooms and one bathroom on the second floor.

One of the most comforting and romantic features of this home is the fireplace that sits between the living room and dining area, which fills the entire space with warmth and light, when needed. But possibly even more important to some is the fact that Chesterman House boasts a BBQ for grilling during those fun summer months, as well as a washer and dryer, so you won’t have to leave the house and incur in the extra expense of taking your clothes to a local laundry.
